WHO WE ARE

SPACE Uganda is a grass root registered non-profit organization, community based organization founded in 2018, committed to transforming the lives of children and young people with disabilities and their families in the rural areas of Uganda. We partner with families, caregivers, and communities to provide essential support in education, nutrition, healthcare, mobility, and skill-building. Through these programs, we aim to make sure children and young people with disabilities we serve can thrive, feel valued, and live free from abuse and discrimination.

We also work to empower families with income-generating projects, equipping them to build a more secure and inclusive future for their children. By strengthening families, we ensure children with disabilities grow up in safe, loving, and supportive environments.

We are committed to creating a world where children and young people with disabilities are valued for who they are, have access to opportunities that allow them to thrive, feel safe, supported, and loved by their families and communities.

By breaking down societal barriers and empowering families, we aim to create a future where every child with a disability has a place to belong and the chance to reach their full potential.

Our Annual Event

Join us every year as we come together to run for children and young people with disabilities especially

those who can’t walk or run.

The Buikwe Run is our flagship event, bringing together communities to raise awareness and funds for life changing corrective surgeries. Through your steps, we help children regain mobility, dignity and the chance to live full and empowered lives

Run for hope, love and human dignity.

OUR COMMITMENT TO ACTION

At SPACE Uganda, we are committed to creating a world where:

EDUCATION

Children and young people with disabilities are valued for who they are.

HEALTH

They have access to opportunities that allow them to thrive and succeed.

SOCIAL INCLUSION

They feel loved, safe, supported, and valued by their families and communities.

At SPACE Uganda, we envision a society where every child with a disability is not only seen but celebrated for their unique contributions to the world.

Our Major Goal

To strengthen the capacity of families to cope with the challenges of raising a child with disabilities. We want to achieve greater acceptance of the child as an individual to have love and sense of belonging, first as part of the family and second as part of the community.

Our Community Village

At SPACE Uganda, we believe it truly takes a village to raise a child. Our Community Village is not a single location —it’s a network of families, caregivers, local leaders, and organizations working together to create an environment where children and young people with disabilities feel loved, valued, and included.

In our Community Village, families are at the center. We support parents and caregivers, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to provide safe and nurturing homes. When families are empowered, children with disabilities can grow up feeling secure, accepted, and celebrated for who they are.

Beyond families, we engage entire communities to embrace inclusion. Through awareness campaigns, training programs, and advocacy, we work to break down stigma and create a culture where children with disabilities are recognized as vital members of the community. By involving teachers, healthcare workers, and local leaders, our Community Village builds strong support systems around every child.

We also ensure that support is accessible and personalized. Whether through home visits, drop-in clinics, or income-generating projects, our team works directly with families to address their unique challenges and opportunities. The result is a more resilient, inclusive community where children with disabilities can thrive.

At SPACE Uganda, our Community Village is more than an approach—it’s a belief that every child deserves a community that believes in them and a world that gives them the space to reach their full potential.

Our approach

At SPACE Uganda, we take a holistic, community-driven approach to supporting children and young people with disabilities and their families. We believe that sustainable change happens when we work together with families, caregivers, and communities to address barriers and create opportunities. Here’s how we approach our work:

  • We place families at the heart of our work, recognizing that strong families create strong children. By equipping parents, caregivers, and even fathers with the skills, resources, and emotional support they need, we empower families to provide safe, loving, and inclusive homes for children with disabilities.
  • We partner with local communities to promote inclusion, raise awareness about disability rights, and challenge the stigma that creates barriers for children and young people with disabilities. Together, we build a culture of acceptance and belonging.
  • Our programs address critical needs in education, healthcare, nutrition, and economic empowerment. Each initiative is tailored to break down barriers and create opportunities for growth and independence.
  • Through home visits, we offer consistent, individualized support for children and their families, ensuring no one feels left behind.
  • We amplify the voices of children and young people with disabilities, advocating for their rights and working with leaders to create inclusive policies that protect and empower
  • By providing families with income-generating skills and promoting self-reliance, we create long-term solutions that ensure lasting impact for children, families, and communities.

Join us in our mission to break the silence and
stigma surrounding disabilities in our communities!!

Together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting society where children with disabilities are valued and empowered.
