Volunteering with SPACE Uganda is an opportunity to make a hands-on impact in the lives of children with disabilities. Do you have skills, or passion to share? We welcome volunteers to join us in making a difference. Whether you are based in Uganda or abroad, there are many ways to contribute, volunteering with SPACE Uganda is a rewarding opportunity to directly impact the lives of children and young people with disabilities while gaining valuable experience and forming meangiful connections. Here are some specific ways you can get involved:

1. Join our home visits and follow up programs;

Be part of our community outreach efforts by joining our team on home visits and follow up programs in Buikwe district. As a volunteer you will;

  • Accompany our staff to visit families and caregivers of children and young people in rural areas
  • Help assess the needs of beneficiaries, monitor progress, and ensure they are receiving support they need in education, healthcare nutrition, and mobility
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support to families, helping to build strong and trusting relationships.
  • Assist in documenting visits through note taking, photography, or data collection to support program evaluation.

This role is ideal for compassionate individuals who enjoy working directly with communities and want to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and young people with disabilities.

2. Assist in physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions;

Support our healthcare and rehabilitation programs by assisting in physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions. As a volunteer you will;

  • Work alongside our trained physiotherapists to help children and young people with disabilities improve their mobility, strength and independence
  • Provide hands on support during therapy sessions using mobility aids, or engaging children in therapeutic play
  • Encourage and motivate participants, celebrating their progress and milestones
  • Help maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe welcoming environment for sessions

This role is perfect for individuals with a background in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or healthcare as well as those eager to learn and support rehabilitation efforts. No prior experience is required, just willingness to help and a positive attitude.

3. Help organize awareness events;

Get involved in raising awareness and building community support by helping to organize events like the Buikwe Run, our annual event to promote inclusion and disability rights. As a volunteer you will;

  • Assist in planning and logistics
  • Help promote the event through community outreach, social media channels to maximize participation
  • Support on the day activities including registration, crowd management, and ensuring a fun, inclusive experience for all attendees.
  • Engage with participants to share information about SPACE Uganda’s mission and the importance of supporting children and young people with disabilities.
  1. Use your skills in social media, fundraising, content creation, or administration to support our programs; leverage your professional skills to support our programs remotely or on site
