Every child is a symbol of hope, but sometimes their brightness is dimmed due to health challenges. At SPACE Uganda, we are committed to reigniting that brightness in every child we come across. Our approach to medical care is not just about treatment; it’s about nurturing the whole child. We provide personalized medical attention, ensuring that each child receives care that is tailored to their unique needs. Our healthcare initiatives include:

Physiotherapy support
Many families struggle to access physiotherapy services due to the high costs and long distances to hospitals and rehabilitation centers. To bridge this gap, we provide physiotherapy sessions at our center and through home visits, ensuring that children receive the care they need closer to home. Our trained physiotherapists work directly with children and their caregivers, teaching them exercises and techniques that can be practiced at home for long-term improvement. We also empower parents with hands-on training, equipping them with the skills to manage muscle exercises, stretching routines, and positioning techniques to support their child’s development.
Physiotherapy is life-changing, it enables children to sit, stand, walk, and use assistive devices more effectively, while also reducing pain and stiffness. Most importantly, it allows them to participate fully in school, play, and social activities, fostering independence and confidence. Through continuous physiotherapy sessions, children with disabilities can move beyond their limitations and unlock their full potential, leading healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Mobility support
For many children with disabilities, limited movement is one of the biggest barriers to independence, education, and full participation in society. Without proper mobility aids and support, children may be confined to their homes, unable to attend school, play with peers, or access essential services. At SPACE Uganda, we provide mobility support to ensure that children with disabilities can move freely, safely, and confidently, giving them the opportunity to live active and fulfilling lives.
Many children need wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and orthotic braces, but these essential mobility aids are often too expensive or unavailable in our rural communities. We assess each child’s needs and provide or link them to the right assistive devices. These aids make it easier for them to move around and increase their independence and dignity. We strongly believe that ensuring children’s mobility is a crucial step towards empowering them.

Corrective surgery
Under this program, we make appropriate referrals for children with disabilities for corrective surgery to specialized hospitals we have made partnerships with. Some of the cases include clubfoot, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, etc. We believe that providing appropriate treatment for their physical disabilities will provide these children hope for a better life, allowing them to become productive members of their families and communities while shedding the stigma of being a burden.
We also receive mobility aids such as wheelchairs, and crutches for distribution to children with disabilities, which eases their mobility. We believe that if mobility is ensured then empowerment is ensured. Some of these mobility aids help in enhancing their independence and dignity.
