Nutrition Support.

At SPACE Uganda, we believe that proper nutrition is essential for the growth, development, and overall well-being of children with disabilities. However, many children in Uganda, especially those in rural communities, face malnutrition due to poverty, food insecurity, and a lack of knowledge on balanced diets.

For children with disabilities, poor nutrition can worsen existing health conditions, delay physical and cognitive development, and increase vulnerability to illness. Studies show that children with disabilities are three times more likely to suffer from undernourishment than those without disabilities. Many of these children have health issues that affect their nutritional well-being and eating habits, making it even more critical to meet their dietary needs so they can survive and thrive.

Our Nutrition Support Program ensures that children with disabilities receive the proper nutrition they need to grow strong, stay healthy, and reach their full potential.

Under this program, we work in the following ways

  • We provide nutritious food support for children with disabilities from the most vulnerable households.
  • We equip parents and caregivers with knowledge on balanced diets, and effective feeding practices, empowering them to provide better nutrition at home.
  • We give parents and caregivers guidance on locally available, cost-effective foods that support child development.
  • We support families in growing their own nutritious foods, such as vegetables and protein-rich crops, to improve household nutrition and self-reliance.
